I know you've been following part 1 and part 2 of my little living room makeover, and have been waiting for the final reveal with baited breath! (Or not. That's cool too.) Our space has transformed from a bland beige and white box to a real living room with color, pattern, texture, and life. If you couldn't tell, I'm pretty psyched about it.
When we moved to California 18 months ago, the only piece of furniture that came with was our coffee table that Nate built from an old piece of scaffolding. (He's awesome like that.) Everything else has been slowly collected from thrift stores, Craigslist, Ikea, and the like while we got back on our feet financially. And finally, thanks to a generous Christmas gift from my dad (THANKS DAD I LOVE YOU!), we were able to purchase our first real grown-up sofa and make our living room so cool that the Board of Ed. officially closed school.
Check out the Olioboard below to see my design vision (and my delusion of having hardwood floors in our student apartment rental), and the final living room design right below that. Cool, huh?

To give you a better idea of some of the patterns and textures in the space, here are a few detail shots. These are all just snapped with my iPhone - one day I will own a sweet digital SLR, but not now. So instead of crisp, magazine-worthy shots, you get slightly imperfect camera snaps with a filter to look "ethereal" and "vintage" (to improve the fact that they're "sorta blurry" and "not really accurate with color").

The space isn't totally complete yet - I'm planning to buy a pair of white Mongolian faux fur pillows to add some texture to the sofa, and one day there will be real art on the wall (instead of a makeshift piece of twine with random stuff clipped to it). But for now the space finally feels like "us", and we freaking love it.

Shopping Guide: sofa: The Sofa Company // bookshelf, area rug, and sheepskin: Ikea // coffee table: Handmade // end table: Lamps Plus // desk chair and houndstooth accent chair: vintage // lamp: Target // wallpaper on bookshelf: Lowe's // pillows: custom from Studio La Beaute // art: Lesley Myrick, Sarah Tinken, Heartfish Press, Obvious State (formerly Little Brown Pen).
Happy Monday, and thanks for following along on my living room makeover adventure!

Please come to my house and make it pretty for me! (Translation - you're lovely and talented, and I adore your new space!)
Thank you, thank you! xox
LOVE the sofa. & I love your piece of twine with photos & pieces of art. I saw a similar idea somewhere else and have been examining our space for a place where I could do that here. Go with it, it's perfect for this time in your life. I was [unfortunately] misled about life when I was a kid and a teenager even and figured that FOR SURE when you hit your mid-late 20s, you should be stable and able to have a grown up decor and have the ability to make your space look like magazines. Boy was I lied to lol. But that's okay, I think I prefer the slightly mismatched whimsy flair that is designated for 20 somethings age group anyway. Your space has a perfect balance of grown up (that couch) and the mismatched flair of the season of life that you're in. :)
Thanks Lauren! You're so right about the myth that it's easy to "have it all together" in your 20's, and afford the house and decor of your dreams. Ha! We'll get there, slowly but surely!
