I've Got the (Sofa) Blues

Emily Henderson Blue Living Room Sofa
A very monumental, grown-up event has occurred in my life: Nate and I bought our first sofa. Sure, we've had sofas before - hand-me-downs and freebies that were supremely uncomfortable and supremely ugly - but this is the first time we've bought a sofa that we actually want to have! We both love tuxedo-style sofas with deep tufting, so choosing a style was a no-brainer (and thanks to The Sofa Company, we were actually able to afford the look we wanted too!). We went shopping thinking we wanted one in deep charcoal grey.

We put lots of thought into the color for our first real sofa. Grey is safe. Grey is lovely. Grey is classic. We both like to wear grey. We won't get tired of grey.

Guys, we bought a TEAL sofa.

We did not go for safe. We did not go for classic. I'm talking vibrant, dark peacock-ish teal faux leather.

It's gonna be AMAZING!

While I was browsing fabric swatches a sliver of teal caught my eye, and the wheels started turning in my brain. I love Emily Henderson's living room (check out the top photo) with her royal blue vintage sofa, and I figured if Em has the design-balls to make a blue sofa look incredible, than surely I can work it too.

Our little teal baby won't be ready for a few weeks, but here's a peek at what's cooking. And just for fun, I've rounded up a few more teal and blue sofas that kinda rock my face off.

Happy Wednesday!

PS. Despite my gushing praise, this is not a sponsored post. The Sofa Company is just awesome. And so is Em Henderson.

Holly :

I wish I could convince my husband to get a new couch. Ours is 30+ years old (Nathan's mom bought it before she married his dad) and it's such an ugly brown colour - I hate it, but Nathan refuses to part with it. Sigh. A teal couch would be awesome!!!

Lesley Myrick :

Husbands are so funny about couches, huh? Our current one is an old freebie that sags forward, and is upholstered in a dark green and red plaid. My hubs likes the plaid! I have a cheapo slipcover on it to hide the ugly, but it's time to go.

Maybe a new couch is in your future...I mean, 30 years is a LONG time to have a sofa!

Nathan Myrick :

I almost never comment on the wife's blog, but c'mon! The dark blue/green plaid is SOOO much better than a taupe colored velour zebra, right? RIGHT?

Nathan Myrick :

Or to be more accurate, the plaid isn't exactly the most attractive pattern. But it is better than the slip cover. And I'm sticking to my story ;). Also, we are sublimely grateful to our friend who gave us the couch when we moved here without one. Stephen Hinkel, if you read this, thanks a huge bunch!

Lesley Myrick :

Nate, I will always choose zebra over plaid. :)

And yes, I'm totally grateful to Stephen for our current sofa! It has definitely served us well for the last year and a half.
